Eagle Eyes (Forest Hills Grid 18)

Neighborhood Swim Team

Posted in: Eagle Eyes - Forest Hills Grid 18

Anyone interested in starting up a neighborhood swim team at Del Rio for the kids to participate in after school and weekends, please respond via this discussion page, or email Aquarius9721@VERIZON.net. I will be speaking to the pool manager at Del Rio this week to see how we can work this out, & I'd like to have an idea of the  number of potentially interested parties. The kids do not have to be master swimmers to participate. By the same token, if you are interested in getting your child swim lessons, they are available year round for the same price as you pay for  lessons during the summer -- $15 for 2 weeks -- and there isn't the crowd that there is during summer months.

Del Rio is a year around pool now -- has been for several years -- and is a very under-utilized treasure within our community. It has been re-painted outside and inside the locker rooms, and looks very neat & clean. The new manager has lived in  Forest Hills for years, he raised his 6 kids here, and is very much a community sort of guy. Let's start making use of this pool before the city decides to cut operation hours, or worse. It is currently open for adult lap swim as well as public swim 6 days a week.

Let's give these kids something to do after school, and build their water safety skills (along with their general health) at the same time. Let's help build Chamberlain's future swim teams. And while we're at it, let's re-build our community.

PLEASE, contact us to help get the ball rolling, the sooner the better.

OK here's the scoop: Ispoke to the pool manager (Mike); with budgets being what they are we don't CURRENTLY have the funding & staff to start another swim team, but he would be willing to begin the novice swim team practices early, like, in a month or so (rather than waiting until summer). If you are interested in this, please contact Mike at the pool. Remember, the kids don't have to be master swimmers, but they should be able to swim the length of the pool one-way; novice swim team isn't a substitute for lessons. If your kids need to take swim lessons to get to this point, the pool is offering swim lessons during spring break  at the summer prices ($15 for 2 weeks/8 lessons), which is a bargain. The lessons are not offered year round as was stated in the earlier post; my apologies for misleading you.

Remember, Del Rio Pool is open from 6am to 6pm for adult lap swim, limited public swim hours 6 days a week. If we don't use it, we may lose it.
