Hello Groups,
Detective Bishop who now works in District Three (we miss her) asked me to get the word out about a possible scam involving the elderly. I know many of you may have elderly parents & neighbors who live alone, they really need our help in looking out for them. This scam is seasonal, and our area as well as others are hit. Many times these crimes are not reported because the senior is embarrassed to admit they've scammed. In any event here is the info.
In the first week of March, in the area of North Boulevard and Waters Avenue, 3 subjects drove into victims driveway and began to engage her in the need for her roof be repaired (I know we've heard this one). The senior was alone and was essentially bullied into paying $1,700.00 dollars for simply a thin layer of paint sprayed on her roof. Although she told the "man in charge" she did not want it done, their team stayed and left getting the money. This event was not discovered until her son who balances her checking account found the transaction. As I was writing this e-mail, Det Bishop said they caught up with the bad guy ! So this is a good ending to this story, but, unfortunately there are more crooks out there. So please look out for your seniors. If you see work vans, etc in their driveways, be a nosy neighbor and make sure everything is on the up and up. Thanks for listening to my ranting, but this type of crime really "gets my goat". Everyone have a great weekend !
