The Right Way to Handle It

Posted in: Eagle Eyes - Forest Hills Grid 18

From TPD Morning Report April 14, 2011 (event from 4/13/11):

The victim arrived home and noticed two strange bikes under her

carport. She walked up to the side door and saw the deadbolt lock in the

door frame and she is sure she did not use the deadbolt today.

walked back to her car and immediately called the police.

David Miller and Ofc. Tobin Myers were on scene within a minute. As

they approached the house they heard the chain link fence in the rear

rattle. Ofc. Miller ran to the back and saw two subjects jumping over a

fence in the adjoining yards. Ofc. Miller began his foot pursuit through

several yards and over several fences. He was giving verbal commands

to " stop police" during the foot pursuit. Ofc. Miller was able to deploy

his ECD with effective results, striking suspect #1 in the back and the

right thigh. Ofc. Miller escorted suspect #1 back to the patrol car when

he then looked out of the corner of his eye and saw suspect #2 hiding

behind a trash car. Ofc. Miller, Ofc. Haight and Ofc.Myers arrested

suspect #2 behind the trash can without further incident. The suspects

had moved two firearms within the house in an attempt to remove them.

Suspect #1 had some of the victim's property on her at the time of

arrest. Ofc. Myers cut his hand on a fence during the foot pursuit and

required several stitches. Det. Nightlinger responded to the scene and

interviewed the suspects. The crime lab responded to process the scene

with positive results.
