Citizens can now drop off unused and expired medications to the Tampa Police Department headquarters in Downtown Tampa. It’s all part of the department’s ongoing effort to crack down on illegal pill mills and prevent prescription drug abuse. The collection bin inside the department’s lobby at 411 North Franklin Street will allow citizens to conveniently get rid of their over-the-counter or prescription medications at anytime during the day or night. Citizens can safely place their unwanted medications inside the blue mailbox-shaped bin and remain anonymous, with no questions asked.
Officers will collect the items inside the bin and properly dispose of them in a way that’s safe for the community and the environment. The police department hopes that the permanent collection site will encourage more residents to get rid of their unwanted prescriptions before they end up in the wrong hands.
