Many of you have decorated your house or yard with the red, white and blue of summer . . . and it looks sooo nice!! Not only is it bold and colorful, it gives a sense of working together and the feel of a homey community. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate or costly -- just the flag flapping in the breeze gives a sense of pride.
This sense of a homey community warms the hearts of all of us, and it will eventually sink in with the youth in our neighborhood and they will begin to understand what it really means to be a neighbor; eventually they will develop a sense of community. Over time, hopefully a lot of the youth will realize that the community is watching out for them and their best interest, and they will also begin to "watch" to keep our neighborhoods clean, litter free and safe from derelicts. It will give them memories of their youth to pass on to their own families, that it's just "what you do" when you are part of a community.
