SAMO Follow-onTraining at Rocky Oaks

On Saturday, January 25, 2003, Expo Ranger and THEFLABA volunteers met Jim Anderson (SAMO NRA) at Rocky Oaks. This was a follow-on trail survey training session to the initial training at the Rising Sun trail in Solstice Canyon. Jim selected Rocky Oaks to give the trainees experience in a wider variety of trail surfaces and features.

The group walked the Glade Trail to get hands-on experience walking on "soft", "very soft", "firm", and "hard" surfaces, as well as describing trail surface materials and properly identifying trail features. The group hopes to compile a series of annotated photos to help train other volunteers to help in conducting trail surveys.

After lunch, the group then reviewed and practiced trail survey procedures learned at the Rising Sun Trail.
