Earth Systems Science, Inc. is a California non-profit educational organization. It uses a community-based education approach to deliver geographic and environmental information and job training directly to youth and their families. It by-passes the traditional school system and deals directly with selected community groups at the neighborhood level. Earth Systems Science provides the educational and technical support to local neighborhood groups. Many neighborhood associations and community groups hold a variety of local neighborhood environmental activities that can be educationally enhanced by Earth Systems Science curricular materials.
Geography describes the world around us. Earth Systems Science uses Geography to help youth and their families describe and understand their neighborhood. The goal is to increase awareness and knowledge of Geography among the people.
The Geographic Systems Model is the main concept and foundation for all lessons. This provides the basic knowledge and understanding for the environmental education programs. Geography is used to systematically describe the local conditions and features that make the environment of a neighborhood. This combination of Air, Land, Water, and Living Things (e.g. plants, animals, and people) make each neighborhood unique.
ESSI strives to increase local environmental awareness and knowledge among youth and their families. Any change in and around a neighborhood will affect its environment. When the community members are aware and informed about their local environment, they are empowered to protect the environment of their neighborhood. They are also empowered to improve the quality of life at the local level. They have more control in matters concerning their neighborhood.

ESSI believes in sustaining neighborhoods through mutual benefit. We encourage local businesses to donate funds, goods, and services to help local Youth, the Environment, and Sustainability. We also encourage residents to partronize local businesses. Without your support, these businesses cannot afford to support ESSI.
