I want to go on the Summer 2005 Thai trip. How do we get the visas for Thailand and China?

Thai visa gets stamped into your passport upon entry--no fees involved.

PRC visa is done at the consulate in LA or by mail from SD. There is a link at the bottom of the webpage with the detailed itinerary to the PRC visa info. You print out the visa application for, send it with your passport to the consulate along with the fee (money order). You need to include return postage---do it certified mail both ways to be safe.

They only process visa applications about 2-3 weeks before departure, so don't send it in too early as the visa is valid for entry for only about 30-60 days before you arrive in China.
