Cameron Bernard opened the meeting at 6:05
Attendees: Kate Devine, Cameron Bernard, Richard Kirby, Paul Kubala, Stan Kordecki, Tom DeMint, Terese Hilliard, Elean Cushnie, Gail George-Coppens, Conrad Weiser
Elean Cushnie, from the city of St. Petersburg was introduced.
April minutes were approved.
$1012.89 in the budget. No outstanding invoices and $30.00 was collected in new membership at the Jai Alai dedication
Stan asked how much money was taken in from the poker tournament last June. $414.00.
Treasurer?’s report was approved. Richard motioned. Paul seconded.
Cameron posed the question: do we want Gene Webb from the police department to speak to us concerning neighborhood safety. No.
Carol Brady, neighbor, asked for a light at the intersection of 54th Ave and First Street, Terese Hilliard commented that previous counts didn?’t warrant the light. Cameron is going to contact the city about the situation. Elean Cushnie will contact someone. Because 54th is an evacuation route, approval may be impacted. Elean stated that it?’s affected only to 4th Street.
CONA newsletter had no new news.
No Edgemoor newsletter will go out until August, in preparation for September membership drive.
Membership report: Kate is almost ready to produce the membership list and the guest packet for new neighbors. We currently have 17 paid members. Kate mentioned that we should have a disclaimer concerning the e-mails addresses of new members. Many board members have requested addresses of all members. Events to promote new membership and create community interest: Poker tournament will be held in August; Next newsletter will be in August; Halloween party will be held;
Stan suggested that on November 5th (election day) we could man a table outside our precinct to encourage new members.
Terese suggested a family film night in the park.
Jai Alai event was a great success. People from all over continue to come to play. Paul gave receipts to Cameron. A new Jai Alai event will take place in the fall. The website has been updated.
Canal Committee: Tom texted Bill Dudley today, who said that possibly we will be include in the dredging that is taking place right now.
Officer Trong: 3 residential burglaries. 1 Vehicle burglary. Rash of vehicle burglaries in Old Northeast, occurring during the night. The situation might increase when the kids get out of school for the summer. Computers and GPS are targeted.
Old Business:
New neighborhood signs: Paul will talk to Bill Dudley about new signs. Terese commented that the current signs were on an agreement to maintain the current signs for the life of the signs (which has passed). Today the grant funds became available. Terese walked us through the process. To change the neighborhood logo to the Jai Alai logo would require a vote. Conrad said that the first logo was decided arbitrarily, and that perhaps it should be changed now that there is something significant.
Stan motioned that we change the logo from the duck to the Concha. There was no second. Terese mentioned that the neighborhood hasn?’t identified with the Jai Alai. Stan rescinded the motion and suggested that we solicit the neighborhood for a new logo. Cameron motioned that we place a grant to replace current signs and decide on the logo later. Tom seconded.
Stan offered the association the opportunity to work at the Superbowl in 2009. He passed out cards with information.
Bill Dudley came to the meeting to ask opinions about budget cuts and ways to increase the budget. $9 million needs to be cut. The first suggestion he offered was consolidating services to reduce advertising costs. There is currently a ?“soft?” hiring freeze; Dudley suggested that it become a ?“hard?” hiring freeze.
Baseball: Dudley wants to put it on a referendum, allowing the voting public to decide.
Conrad asked what the city is doing to help citizens prevent losing their homes. ?“Workforce?” means that anyone who wants to build in the area will be required to build affordable housing.
