Minutes of Our March Meeting

Apr 13, 2003

EDGEMOOR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOC.

MINUTES of Mar.20, 2003 meeting

Terese Hilliard called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.

Terese reported that Pastor Burton has said he and the Faith Covenant congregation have decided to proceed with the vacation of Hampton Ave. NE. We?’ve handed out surveys on Hampton Ave NE & Davidson Ave NE from 1st ST NE to Woodrow Wilson St. NE and of the 60 delivered approx. 30 people are strongly opposed to the vacation. Terese also learned that an appeal for road vacation was not needed as all of these go through City Council proceedings. April 3rd will be the 1st reading of the vacation.

There was a neighbor who lives on SE Monroe Circle N near the Bonefish Grille. He has concerns regarding parking issues on SE Monroe. He wants the city engineering dept. to create parking on 1 side of the road only from 4th St N to Manchester. Mike Frederick is the contact at traffic & engineering.

CONA is concerned about the current policing of St. Petersburg. A plan was brought to CONA board regarding change in the police structure. Chief Harmon submitted a list of recommendations to the Mayor that would solve the problems. Some people affiliated with CONA felt the recommendations were not enough. A management consultant was recommended to recognize morale problems and issues.

Homeland Security Training Seminar 341-4587, CERT-civilian emergency response teams for training at the neighborhood base.

CONA is doing a neighborhood night at the TROP. On Sept. 20th. Tickets will cost $5.00 and need to be purchased now. The neighborhood that has the largest ticket sale will receive a free Block Party.

Former Mayor Fisher came to the CONA meeting asking for help. Highway signs have become unlimited in size, height, regardless of city or county laws due to the result of some State Legislation. Trees could also be cut down if they are in the way of the signage with no regard to the area or environment. A petition form was handed out to any that wanted it.

Our next meeting is April 17th at 7:00 PM.

P.S.- Since our last meeting Pastor Burton has decided not to vacate Hampton Ave NE. However, he will be at our next meeting with the new site plan and all need to attend for input please.
