Heard of the Gamm and forgot about the Players over at Jenks Jr High...and oldie and out of site...

Maybe they would do a review for the old theaters as part of a backwards look to shows at the time.

Dear Mary,

I had older friends recall the Strand Theater was the first showplace to get the Beatles films such as "A Hard Day's Night".  For some reason, the Leroy ignored the Beatles films.

http://www.cinematreasures.org is an excellent resource for stories, photos, and flyers of these old theaters.

As far as bringing a new movie theater downtown, it will never happen. With more and more people buying huge HDTVs and Blu-Ray players, there's less and less of a need to leave your own living room to see it on the "big screen." Couple that with a lack of parking and poor transit service during peak entertainment times, and people can more conveniently drive to Seekonk or Warwick to see the same thing.

Now LIVE theater is another story, since you can't get that anywhere else!

Good point,

So check it out and note that the current exhibit of Slater Mill shows the bridge over the main st dam- I think the Main St bridge had the Strand on the bridge-over the top or was it the Music Hall?
