Farley Neighborhood

FARLEY'S SPEEDWAY HOME PLACE BEGINNINGS

In the early 1950's Farley Addition was built to provide reasonably priced homes for returning veterans of World War II. The Veterans Administration began granting low cost home mortgages to vetrans to provide homes for their families. The first homes were generally small, well constructed two or three bedroom homes on large, wooded lots. The "baby boom" of the fifties began and affordable homes were sorely needed!

FARLEY NEIGHBORHOOD GROWS & GROWS

Homes continued to be built from West10th Street North to Doris Drive over the next 10 to 15 years. Now there are more than 800 homes in the neighborhood. Numerous schools, churches, medical offices, restaurants and retail businesses are nearby. Easy access to I-465 and to Indianapolis International Airport makes commuting easy.

As Farley Neighborhood enters the 21st Century, homes are being remodeled, updated and enlarged throughout the neighborhood. Second floors, additional bedrooms, additional baths, decks and patios are being added to existing homes. Landscaping is being improved. Pride of ownership is evident.

As the original owners age, retire and leave the neighborhood, we see younger families seeking reasonably priced, comfortable homes moving in. Many of the children of former owners are returning to the neighborhood to raise their families in the pleasant and safe neighborhood they remember as children.

Improvements to our streets, street lighting, traffic control, storm drains, sanitary sewers and other public utilities have made the neighborhood a pleasant and safe place for families.

FIRE AND POLICE PROTECTION

Farley is served by the WAYNE TWP FIRE DEPARTMENT which is nationally recognized for its service to nearby communities for outstanding fire and rescue services. MARION COUNTY SHERIFF DEPARTMENT serves Farley Neighborhood and is instrumental in a crime watch program and other public safety issues. Farley Neighborhood leaders work closely with the Sheriff's Department to maintain a safe environment for residents.

About our association

FARLEY ASSOCIATION BEGINNINGS

Farley Neighborhood Association was established in 1978 following the "Blizzard of 1978" which dumped over a foot of snow on our neighborhood streets. The association was first formed to provide funds for private snow removal.

Annual Dues are $25.00 per year for each household and are payable each October. This is among the lowest association fees of all neighborhoods in Indianapolis and an excellent value for the services received.

THE ASSOCIATION GROWS

Since 1978, the association has expanded its services to protect and promote the best interests of the residents; to strive for improvements of public facilities and services within the area; to encourage a civic spririt and foster good will and friendship between all the residents of the areas; to co-operate with county, township and village officials and with other civic and public organizations for the general welfare of the entire community.

ANNUAL EVENTS

(Announcements of the dates, time, and location will be posted on the Farley Neighborhood Association website home page and calendar, and included in the annual newsletter distributed to all residents.)

Farley Neighborhood Association has its annual meeting each spring, usually in April. The meeting gives the residents an opportunity to ask questions or comment on neighborhood concerns. We invite public officials to attend and address issues that affect our neighborhood.

Meetings are generally held at Chapelwood Elementary School Multipurpose Room.

A Crime Watch meeting is held as needed with speakers from IMPD, the Sheriff's Department, and other agencies that can inform us about crime trends in the city. They provide information to help us make our neighborhood safe and secure.

Neighborhood wide garage sales are held twice each year; one the second Saturday in June and one the third or fourth Saturday in September. Farley Association membership dues pay for signs and advertising.
