Farley and other neighborhoods affected by the 50% surcharge contacted Mayor Peterson on 8-31 to ask for a meeting to discuss the possibility of connecting to the City of Indianapolis Sanitary Sewage System. The Mayor responded and agreed to a meeting of the Director of Public Works and the neighborhood leaders. The meeting was held September 30, 2002.
Ms. Barbara Lawrence, director of Indianapolis Public Works will researched our request. The neighborhood leaders will prepared their research and offered facts and figures on what will be involved in changing our sewage connection. While nothing was guaranteed, we are hopeful this meeting will provide residents with relief from the 50% surcharge now imposed by The Town of Speedway.
An extensive report by Steve Rupenthal, a Farley Resident was effective in providing material for the Department of Public works representatives and brought techinical and historical references to our problem. He is a qualified engineer in the field of building and installing sewage systems and we could not have accomplished this meeting without him. Thanks, Steve!
Almost every every affected neighborhood was represented and we gained a lot of support for our request from those representatives well as from Merri Anderson, the Wayne Twp. Director for Marion County Alliance of Neighborhood Associations (MCANA). MCANA has supported us thoughout our protest against the 50% surcharge and our request to connect to Indianapolis Sanitary Sewage facility.
At the conclusion of our meeting, Ms. Lawrence stated she would continue a research and investigation of our complaint and request and will contat Farley's Board as soon as she has a conclusion. We are hopefully optimistic. The wheels of City-County government turn slowly, so we will await the response from the Department of Public Works.
Farley Neighborhood will update this newsletter as information is available. Keep checking for developments........and wish us luck!
