If there is a shared fence that does need replacing. And both homeowner's can't agree on the replacement of the fence. (One wants to pay a company to do it and one wants to replace it themselves.) The homeowner's do agree that the fence needs replacing. Is it okay for one homeowner to go ahead and contract with a fencing company to replace the fence? Is it right to ask the other homeowner to pay for half the bill? Does the do-it-yourself-er homeowner have to pay for the contracted fence? Both neighbors view this board. I'm just tired of hearing about it.

Is the DIY neighbor trying to save money? Maybe his neighbor would allow him to only pay the part it would cost him to do it himself? Would seem that they could come to some sort of agreement? |

I would say yes, the DIY neighbor is trying to save money. The same stretch of fence on the other side of their yard cost them $450 to DIY, split with that neighbor. It is a great looking fence, better than my 3. Neighbor against neighbor never accomplishes much. My understanding is that what will go in is an 8 foot fence not the standard 6 foot fence. The contracted neighbor wants privacy. |

If the neighbor contracts someone to do a job then he/she assumes the financial resposibilty, the other neighbor should be willing to pay 1/2 what the diy cost would be. |
