My point was that you did not initially seem to see the error of speeding on Beach when you referred to it as "dizzying" in an ironic way. Glad you paid your ticket and are now being more careful. I try to watch myself, too.

Back to 9th. Over the last ten years of
traffic meetings, no easy solution has been found. Unfortunately the stop signs did not solve the problem. So, I suggested highlighting them with bold white, reflective lines, which have been shown to be effective.

Closing off access from 9th to 3th would never be accepted by the city or the residents. Some other solution needs to be found.

Speeding is a citywide problem. And I do agree with your point that it is a shame that we don't have enough officers to give out tickets everywhere.

Does anyone out there have a workable solution??????????????

Old Northeast MUST demand

Right on! We must demand that the City do what it said it would do. I don't care who is in charge of this now, the fact is a whole lot of citizens in this neighborhood supported a plan and it was accepted by the city. That plan is now behind schedule and no one knows why.

If the reason is the opposition by the minority of a couple rich jokers, then maybe the newspaper should be notified.
Maybe it should be anyway if it all messed up because of beauracratic
ineptitude, too.

If our city council representative won't help, then she needs to forget ever getting reelected. Has anyone contacted her? Does she read this to keep up on her district?

I only attended about three traffic meetings but it surely seemed to me that all this planning was very hard and that all the people working on it were trying to go to far overboard in pleasing the city by the way they did stuff. So does the city listen to the neighborhoods or not?

I am not a real activist but stuff like this makes me real angry. I got so much stuff in the mail and in the little neighborhood paper, and even the Times, about this project that I just can't believe it is not happening.

no easy solution

There is no easy solution. One simply cannot hire enough police to be on every corner everywhere.

Why doesn't the association ask the community police officer to tell the police department to start an overall city education drive. Such as : slowing down saves lives, maybe even yours........ or St. Petersburg will not tolerate speeding and fines will be very high.......

This could be done through all neighborhood association newsletters,
the City Times, posters, fliers, etc.

One of the council members once said something to the effect that it takes a whole new mindset for people to change their habits. Or perhaps it was someone on TV from the Traffic Department. At any rate, it is true. The only solution I can possibly envision is to change the way individuals think about their driving habits.
