has anyone used a service to remove layers and layers of paint from doors. Or is there a fool proof product.

try sanding

The best results I have had is taking the door off the hinges, laying it flat at waist height or so, and sanding it down. Have to be careful to get a fine sandpaper and do level sanding. You can rent a sander for the bigger areas if you don't own one. Might want to wear a paper mask also because the old paint could be lead and the dust is messy. Takes some time but the door comes out looking real nice. When done sanding, prime the door before repainting. Good luck.
