Hope Burton has the sense not to let you run any meeting. Look, the membership said they didn't want you to run the show- several times, in several ways.

As for the rest- each side had equal time to present to the membership and didn't Lane run that meeting too?
Since he's always been your sidekick, that was no surprise. But his name isn't on that committee of 23 or whatever is it? Oh, sure would like to see a revised list of that committee. There's at least one name that oughta be be removed- you remember, the one who wrote in shocked after reading your attacks on everyone. Ref: Will, Carl, Sneakers, King of the Mountain, Start, Page 1, Page 2, and on and on and on and on.

Re: Special Meetings Procedures and To: Greg B.

In a recent posting Steve Lange has questioned the procedures for special meetings of the general membership. (See Greg Burton?’s 9/13/00 posting titled ''Specil (sic) Meeting Procedures'' and Mr. Lange?’s response on 9/14/00). Mr. Lange has asked for specific terms and agreements for a proposed future meeting, insisting that a precedent exists to justify his request...

Steve writes:
''Yes I did [relinquish the running of the special CVS meeting]. What else would any reasonable person do. It was CVS's meeting not mine. It made all the sense in the world to let the person or group petitioning for the meeting run the meeting.''

I strongly disagree ?– the StopCVS group did not *own* that meeting. The only people who own an NSNA meeting are the members. As I remember that meeting it was called to order by then-president Lange; then followed a brief statement from MetroGroup (the CVS developer) and then a presentation by the StopCVS group. Lane Lastinger (Board member and NDR Committee chair) moderated the ensuing discussion, and then Mr. Lastinger oversaw the vote. The meeting was then automatically adjourned since that was the only item called for in the special meeting petition. My assumption is that Mr. Lange had asked Mr. Lastinger to assist him in running the meeting, but apparently Lane simply stepped in because Steve bowed out. Nonetheless, we had a board member running the meeting throughout, and the ultimate responsibility for making sure it was a proper meeting belonged with the association president.

Further, I cannot imagine *any* association president turning over the complete running of a meeting to persons unknown with an undefined agenda, as Steve is requesting. I certainly would not have during my tenure as president. In the case of the special CVS meeting there was a clear motion to be considered (direct from the petitions) and there were specific individuals who gave a presentation. And whether by designation or default an appropriate moderator was selected in Mr. Lastinger.

Steve also writes:
''So wouldn't you agree that we too should be allowed some latitude and not be held to strict adherance (sic) to the exact language on our petition and or the letter calling for the meeting?''

Since there has been no petition submitted (to my knowledge) and the association has yet to mail out any announcements, why is there already a request to change the wording? ?– are these unknown motions so vague that they have to be constantly rewritten and updated? Special meetings of the general membership are held for specific purposes; if there is not a defined purpose for this proposed meeting, it should not be held.

And a final note; Steve began his recent posting:
''?…the July 3rd Specially called Board meeting to oust me said nothing about voting in a new board member. A pretty serious bit of business.''

Correct, the announcement of the special Board meeting did not talk about voting on a new board member, and there was no requirement to do so. Unlike general meetings, the Board is allowed to conduct its standard business whenever it meets, and filling vacant seats would certainly be considered a standard part of the Board?’s business. There is a difference between special general meetings and special Board meetings ?– the best model for any future special meeting of the general membership is the previous special CVS meeting.
