The neighborhood contains around 300 homes, most of them single family row houses. There are many semi-attached homes and a few single homes. We are within walking distance of Flushing Meadows Corona Park and Kissena Park. We border Queens College and walk to both Colden Auditorium and Lefrak Center for fine arts performances.
Kissena Park is home to very good clay tennis courts that are available to anyone with a NYC permit. It contains many ballfields and wooded trails for walking. The lake is currently undergoing renovation and should be completed by August of 2003. KP boasts one of 12 velodromes (bicycle tracks) in the entire USA and the only one in the tri-state area, originally built for the 1964 Olympic Trials. It is home to the world famous Kissena Bike Club.
Flushing Meadows Corona Park is the second largest park in NYC and the busiest. Virtually every summer weekend features a major festival. The park is home to the USTA National Tennis Center, home of the US Open. It is also home to Shea Stadium, The Queens Wildlife Center, Terrace On The Park, The Hall Of Science, The Queens Botanical Garden, The Queens Museum, an Ice Skating Rink, a Pitch and Putt golf course (and miniature golf), and the Unisphere. In addition, boats and bikes can be rented. This is one major park.
The LIE is our northern border and provides fast access for those entering or departing our neighborhood. Bus service is very fast to many destinations including downtown Flushing (and the 7 line) and Forest Hills (E/F/R/V lines).
Our association monitors conditions that affect the quality of our lives and the value of our homes. Through our membership in the Queens Civic Congress we interact with other civic groups and trade notes on how to best improve our neighborhood.
We are currently zoned R4 and are working to context zone as R3b.
