PAWTUCKET POLICE TO STEP UP PARKING BAN ENFORCEMENT

PAWTUCKET – The Mayor’s Office announced Wednesday that the Pawtucket Police Department is stepping up enforcement of the parking ban that automatically goes into effect in the city for sizable snowstorms, such as the one expected Wednesday through Thursday at 6pm on the 27th.

The ordinance requiring shoveling of sidewalks will also be enforced. The ordinance requires snow be removed from a property owner’s sidewalk no later than the first 12 hours of daylight after the cessation of any snowstorm.

"In prior storms this winter, and in fact for too many years, the city has been lenient on its enforcement of these ordinances," Mayor Donald R. Grebien said. "For the safety of the public and especially our school children, we will rigorously enforce these ordinances going forward."

As previously announced, the parking ban will be in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Thursday. Vehicles must be moved off all public streets to allow for road treatment, snow plowing and removal. School parking lots will be available for off-street parking during the parking ban.

Violations of the parking ban result in significant penalties: A $100 ticket, a tow fee of $82, and a daily storage fee of $24 until the vehicle is reclaimed by its owner.

Dear friends,

My neighbors on Newport and Central Avenues, for the most part, have done a decent job shoveling their sidewalks.

Any truth to a rumor the city of Pawtucket is out of road salt?

Peace  Jim
