I am writing on behalf of a friend of mine who is living adjacent to property that contains an illegal structure. She has written to various people within the Department of Buildings, local political features and various local newspapers. As a result the DOB placed a stop work order on this structure. But the structure still remains.
There are two major concerns.
1. Over time this structure has attracted a variety of rodents who make their way into my friend's backyard.
2. My friend wants to sell her current home so she can downsize. She is concerned how her neighbor's illegal structure will effect the pricing of her house.
It's been suggested to her to hire an attorney. If so can anyone recommend someone who has experience in handling similar transactions of removing illegally built structures that not only pose a health hazard but also negatively impact the worth of adjacent homes?
