Court Date 5/22/01

We had approximately 45 neighbors attend court. The city attorneys put 4 witnesses on the stand. They were terrific! The defendants could feel the squeeze and decided to settle out of court without putting any witnesses on the stand. This is the second time they have done this, the first occuring when we went to court the first time. The City attorneys asked for more security guards and a concrete wall down the alley behind the apts at Timberleaf and Arborhill. The defense promised to add more security guards - 4 during the day from 4 pm to 2 am and 8 guards from 2 am to 4pm. These guards will be armed. The defendants are putting up electronic gates at the Forest Springs Apts which should be completed in a week to 10 days. We did not get the wall. The managers of apts will have to do background checks on tenants, make sure the tenants are the actual leasees. The order for the new guards goes into effect tomorrow. The apts will be monitored and if things are not better in 30 days, guess what? we go back to court again. Don't give up - we knew this would be a long process and it is a step at a time. Continue to lend your support. The Judge was surprised to see so many of us today in the courtroom.

Remember: if you see any drug deals or prostitution, please contact me for an affidavit. Anything you see has to pertain to the apts and had to occur after April 12th on apt property. It cannot be down at the creek on Arborpark.

My husband and daughter went. To my knowledge, they tried to settle and it failed. When they came back in, the judge who had been reading over the evidence, told them they had serious trouble. He ordered them to hire ten armed guards... four for the daytime hours and six for nighttime. They were also ordered to install security gates, and only residents are to be permitted inside.
