Pro-Tem Mayor, Kathleen Hicks,
Thank you very much for your reply and working with everyone in getting attention to the code issues in our neighborhood. I look forward to this due to the following reason.
While placing complaint calls to code a few weeks ago; I ask the question, are code violations addressed via citizen complaints or are they cited via code officers doing a neighborhood drive through. I was told they are mainly handled through citizen call-ins. I do not believe this is a way to get this area turned around. I can see this working in an area that is not going through a period of decline such as West Meadowbrook and other nearby neighborhoods. We do drive arounds often and there are so many violations it is over whelming and needs addressed. Council must address this and provide what it takes to get control of areas with excessive violations. I will continue to address issues such as this until this area is back on track. I hope that the meeting will address the fact that there are areas in our city where code and other departments are critically under-funded and understaffed.
At this time I am addressing the areas that are within (WMNA) my neighborhood association boundaries, which are (East - West) Edgewood Terrace to Riverside Drv and (North to South) Hwy 30 to the RR Tracks south of Lancaster. There are many areas that need sweep throughs within this area both north and south of Lancaster. We look forward to getting our neighborhood cleaned up.
Also, I would like to thank you all for starting to address the issues presented to you in previous e-mails regarding the Bomar/Hudson area. The action was much needed and respectfully addressed. It doesn't matter who the violator is or the type of property. Whether the property is business, residential or who it is owned by even if it is owned by the city. We all must obey our city ordinances and laws.
One last thing, there is a car wash that sets just south of Lancaster along the East side of Rand. I don't know the address or if this location is being policed but there is a crowd that is congregating and partying on this property every night and on the weekends there are very large crowds. Can this property be looked at and maybe be brought to the attention of the owner?
Thanks again,
Mike Phipps
