Parking/Code Enforcement

Posted in: River Trails
Does anyone know if River Trails has any kind of code enforcement about parking? The neighbors across from me have several cars and continue to park one behind the other, blocking the sidewalk and into the street. Recently they have began parking directly behind my driveway where i can barely get out of my own driveway and partially blocking other neighbors driveways where they have to physically go to their house and ask them to move their cars. Any help would be appreciated. Its becomes very frustrating when you can barely get out of your own driveway. We have asked these people not to do this but they continue to anyways.

Cars parked blocking sidewalk

Yes, there is a law against blocking the sidewalk. In fact, we had three cars in our drive way once and one of the cars was just past the sidewalk. A police officer drove up to our house and told us we had to move our car or face a ticket. I don't know if someone made a complaint or he was just driving by and had some time on his hands. However, we also have neighbors who park their vehicles all over the place. Some have as many as 6 cars in and around their drive. We have called to complain, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
There are laws...

The neighborhood doesn't have any rules but you can get a ticket for blocking a sidewalk (parking across the sidewalk) or parking the wrong direction on the street. If they are parallel parking legally, there isn't much recourse.
It sounds like you have tried the neighborly way to handle this. Next time call the police.
It's amazing how people put $500 worth of junk in the garage and park a $30,000+ vehicle on the street or in the driveway.
Yes, there are laws

The neighborhood has no ability to enforce city laws. A police officer must do it. They can write a ticket for anyone blocking the sidewalk or parking in the wrong direction. Street parking is legal in River Trails as long as the vehicle is taged and inspected. No commercial vehicles are allowed to park overnight. No parking in the grass or behind the house unless it is on a paved surface. You can call the police if you see people parking wrong. They will come out and investigate.
