Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association

April-May 2001 Newsletter

Apr 15, 2001

Dear Neighbors,

Our next meeting is a sneaker -- it?’s on May 1, so be sure to mark your calendars. We are having elections of officers at our next meeting. I will not be running for President this year. I have been President for several years now, and I am glad to announce that Kathleen Gagnon-Witter has agreed to run as President of the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association. There have been no other announcements or nominations, so I am sure that by next month, Kathleen will be planning the agendas and writing the newsletters. Kathleen has been hard at work for the past few years working with the Foster Target Area, and Friends of Trees, among other things. Kathleen has been our Secretary/Treasurer this past year and has done a wonderful job. Kathleen is young, energetic and has lots of new ideas. We are very lucky to have her.

Kathleen already has some ideas about a project to improve our neighborhood alleys. In her words: ?“Are you interested in improving your neighborhood alleys? I am gathering volunteers to explore how we can make alleys assets to our neighborhood. They can be wonderful places to walk and could be safe places for kids to play and ride bikes. Many of our neighborhood alleys are overgrown and riddled with huge pot holes and trying to restore them seems like a big project. There must be a way to restore them! If you are interested in becoming an alley advocate, please respond [to: gagwitt@aol.com]. Thanks!

I will be running as Foster-Powell?’s delegate to Southeast Uplift -- a position that has stood vacant for the last several years.

We have had to do some housekeeping without by-laws to satisfy the requirements of the Office of Neighborhood Involvement. At our last meeting, the necessary changes were reviewed, and we need a large turnout to ratify the amendments. Please come to the meeting and bring your family members who are 15 and over.

Meetings are always on the FIRST Tuesday of each month (except as noted above) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the St. Anthony Parish Hall, 3618 SE 79th (green and white building at south end of the complex-please use the south door). Call Cindy Peek at 775-3006 for more information, or e-mail me at clpeek@aol.com; more information is available at www.neighborhoodlink.com/portland/foster.
