Rental housing inspection information- Portland Bureau of Buildings is making an inspector available to check on nuisance rental properties for safety compliance. Presentation made by Kathleen Witter, on behalf of Steve Witter. Perhaps Steve should present next meeting.

Schools- Greg McPherson spoke supporting the upcoming school levy- Measure 26-2. Additional property taxes would be assessed to support schools funding to replace revenue lost to Measure 5. Portland Public Schools is trying to raise 78 million over 5 years. Property taxes would not exceed Measure 5 limits. The levy targets adding 170 teachers and restoring art, music, books, and summer school. This measure requires a double majority to pass. On the downside, the measure adds approx. $90/year to the average property tax bill (rmv 175k, assessed mv 121k). Ballots will be mailed at the end of this month and they must be received by May 26th. Question asked regarding a custodian issue- addressed by the speaker.

Cemetery fence- Joint project between Metro and PDC. Carol Herzberg spoke from PDC. Upcoming meetings discussing the fence project will be held the 2nd Tuesday of the month 7-9pm at 5105 SE 97th Lents Elementary School. Exceptions are the months of April, July, October, and January. Fencing the cemetery is part of the Lents TC urban renewal. Design options will optimally be reviewed at the May 9 meeting, or at the latest at the June meeting. Funds are available to build the fence from July 1, 00 ?– July 1, 01, so construction time may be late summer, fall, or later yet. Fence vs crime issues discussed. Chain link fence issues addressed.
