Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association

March 2001

Mar 20, 2001

Dear Neighbors,

May is almost here, and with it comes the neighborhood elections. Be sure to come to the next meeting to cast your vote for next year's officers, or perhaps to run for office.

Neighborhood Cleanup
The neighborhood cleanup will take place on Saturday, May 19, from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m. It will take place at Arleta School, 5109 SE 66th. Yard debris and the usual bulky waste will be accepted. No hazardous waste or tires will be accepted.

Bylaws
We are once again revising bylaws to suit the requirements of the Office of Neighborhood Involvement. Attendees at the last neighborhood meeting were sent home with proposed revisions to study, and we will work on choosing the wording for the amendments at the next meeting in April, and will plan on voting on the amendments in May.

Elections
Elections are in May each year. Positions available are President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, Land Use Chair, and Delegate to Southeast Uplift. We have not had a delegate to Southeast Uplift for over two years. It is an important position, as the person actually becomes a member of the Board of Directors for Southeast Uplift. I sincerely hope that we can get a dedicated person to run for the position this year.

The Main Event
The appeal for the requested parking for the Main Event gym has been decided in favor of the business. They will be allowed to use the existing six parking spaces, supplemented by bicycle parking, and the employees will each be given bus passes to go to work. Thanks to Mr. Pliska for going to the hearing and representing the neighborhood.

Crime
Officer Pippen was unable to come to our March meeting -- he was off getting a Medal of Honor for a daring rescue from a burning building. Thank you, Officer Pippen!

Fence Around Pioneer Cemetery
The project was sent out for a bid, and only one company responded, with a bid that was more than double the planned amount. It will be sent out again, and we should be seeing a fence sometime soon.

Meetings are always on the FIRST Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the St. Anthony Parish Hall, 3618 SE 79th (green and white building at south end of the complex-please use the south door). Call Cindy Peek at 775-3006 for more information, or e-mail me at clpeek@aol.com, or check the website at www.neighborhoodlink.com/portland/foster.
