I hope that anyone who reads this message will read the proposed property maintenance code and share what the code says with their friends and neighbors. THIS CODE, in its current form, APPLIES TO ALL EXISTING RESIDENTAL HOMES, NOT JUST RENTAL HOMES. NO GRANDFATHER CLAUSE EXISTS. The code MANDATES (REQUIRES) window sizes based on room sizes (very few basements will meet this requirement), window opening size based on window sizes, room sizes based on the number of people living in a home, walking through bedrooms to get to bathrooms-not allowed, walking through bedrooms to get to bedrooms-not allowed, and many, many more. The code official has the authority to make new rules. I currently own several properties in the city which do not meet this code?’s interior requirements. THEY WERE BUILT THIS WAY. If this code passes in its current form, we will all have to comply with the interior restrictions. Please be aware of what your city council is considering doing. I am very concerned, many realtors, and other citizens are as well. The rules for the interior of homes do not have to do with maintenance. Following the passage of this ordinance, the local government officials will be permitted to enter your homes to check compliance of this ordinance.

Thank you
