Town of Foxfield

NO H20 DUE TO $$$ PROBLEMS

Posted in: Foxfield
I attended the regularly scheduled meeting last night (May 9) and the issue of when the water would become available came up. The attendance at the meeting was, as usual, very sparce.

Steve Sullivan (if I may paraphrase) said that there were legal problems and an issue of approximately $171,000 was at the root. The town residents are (generally speaking) not going to receive any water until this issue is rectified. Steve could not give a time frame on when the water would be available.

However, he did say that in emergency situations (on a case by case basis), some residents may get water delivered to their homes prior to the town, as a whole, getting it. He also said if any residents have an emergency problem, they should contact him and he will assist them in getting water from the district.

On a similar issue, Steve said he met with the water district representative and was told the water district did not have enough money in their budget to pay those citizens who may not want credit but may actually want the monies due them from the district.

Marie MacKenzie (county commissioner and member of the water board) said that was not true and that the water district did have the money in the budget to pay those citizens.

As usual, we, the citizens of Foxfield, are being told two different stories by two elected officials of the town and county. So who should we believe?

I was alomost ready to give up on who to believe when I called Gary Atkin (Manager of the water district 303-790-4830).

He said (and I quote): ''As people connect and pay their tap fees, we will be using those fees to pay for the water rights as well''. He continued: ''The PID was formed in Novemeber of last year and he (Gary) has petitioned the PID board to discuss the purchase of Foxfield water rights''. He also said: ''In the aqua budget there is not the money to pay the citizens but by petitioning the PID, the money is available now. The primary purchase of the water rights will come from the PID.'' I read back to him these quotes and he said that my quoting him was accurate.
