Consider this discussion an Impassioned Call to Arms, from which, I trust, we will develop tools we can use to stand up for what we believe in and thereby transform our lives, our community, and
ultimately, the world around us.
I am sure that I am not alone in recognizing that our neighborhood is becoming unsafe, our community is deteriorating and our most basic values - civility, a sense of justice, integrity and responsibility are under attack, from the Oval Office to the Mayor's Office. But we don't have to put up with it. Moreover, we don't need to play the blame game. Indeed, we are neither helpless or victims.
In Fighting The Fight, each one of us can take up arms against complacency and fight for the causes in which we believe. We don't have to accept things as they are. By carefully choosing the battles that matter most to us, and organizing a plan to bring about the changes we feel are necessary, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE and, in fact, TRANSFORM the world around us.
Truth be told, we're not doingthe things we ought to be doing to preserve our way of life. We're not participating in the process. we're not voting. We're not helping each other the way we should. We barely know our neighbors. Folks, we have to get out there and take up the reins of our community and our lives. FOLKS, THERE'S WORK TO DO-AND ONLY WE CAN DO IT!
In the past, as people's conciousness was pricked by a cause, they felt compelled to do something about it. Today, cynicism freezes us in our tracks. Indeed, nothing is more defeating than the feeling that nothing you can do will make a ''dime's worth of difference.''
But, here's the good news! We CAN be EFFECTIVE ADVOCATES and PERSUADE people to our causes, IF we can get over our CYNISIM and our FEAR. ONE PERSON, FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT, CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! And one person, joined by another, quickly forms a COALITION and, eventually, a MOVEMENT. We Can Make A Difference. Moreover, WE MUST!!!.
ultimately, the world around us.
