I've noticed the ISA effectiveness. I run my dog every morning across several blocks. When the weather was just cooling off, the gangs tagged every blank spot they could find between 16th and 7th streets. Two days later, everything had been repainted and cleaned. That's effort!
In addition, I remember when arcadia was a "bad neighborhood." But with community development, coordination and support, the area has become among the most desirable places to live in the city. The improvements are creeping down IS Rd, but has been slow at 28th Street.
If we can continue this improvement, we won't have to tolerate having the windows in our cars broken anymore.
I patrol 3 blocks in my truck everyday I come home from work. I have crime stoppers on fast dial. I report any teenagers walking after 9PM, and alcohol in the Park. I report graffiti to the police and then to graffiti busters.
My greatest weapon is the camera phone and a bright flashlight.
I wonder if there's something more I can do, putting sanctions on pawn shops after a certain time, zoning regulations, abandoned properties, etc. But, I'm still new to how the city operates in these matters. If anyone has any pointers that would help the redevelopment and revitalization of our neighborhoods, please let me know?
