Happy Canyon Creek Drainage Issues

Feb 28, 2004

Brad Rubenstein, Manager at Douglas County Public Works, clarified some confusion about the projects at the GVEHOA meeting on December 4th.

He explained that the easement requested of owners on the creek bed would be used only for very occasional drainage maintenance, and would not be an easement for regional trail access or any other non-drainage use. He also mentioned that fencing of the creek bed is not necessarily prohibited under this easement, but that any structure or dumping that impedes water flow would not be acceptable.

Brad mentioned that a lot of the present work is necessary because of development upstream which will increase runoff. He promised that the concerns about pooling in the finished portion in the open space were being addressed.

He also stated that the maintenance road in the Stonegate open space to our east is temporary, and there for drainage issues, and must be restored to open space within a short time. He stated that he would look into the schedule for us.

Call him at Public Works, 303-660-7480, and please share with the GVEHOA Board any updates that you may receive. If help is not readily forthcoming, you can also call Don Carlson at FEMA, (303) 235-4800
