Grant Park Neighborhood Civic Association

Another Year Done Gone

Dec 17, 2000

Hey Everyone,

Can you believe it? Another year has come and gone and what we need to reflect on is what have we done?

The Grant Park Civic Association is a year old now. The year 2000, has brought about many changes to the Grant Park Community. The most visible and notable change has been the growth of Grant Park. With all the new Habitat for Humanity homes being built as well as those of private contract, Grant Park is bulging at the seams. Do you know your new neighbors?

The present Grant Park Civic Association was formed in January of 2000, and has been the facilitator of some good works within the community. In March 2000, Grant Park in Partnerships with the Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department, Probation & Parole, DACCO, and a few other partners did a major clean up of the community. This coincided with Tampa's NEAT Program. There was a lot of trash picked up over the course of a few weekends.

Then came the community class put on by and community fair which was attended by many. Later there was a community workshop that was hosted by the City of Tampa in which a few of you attended again.

Also of the course of the year many behind the scenes events had taken place. Everything from having pot holes in the roadways filled, to street lights being fixed to traffic signs being placed, drug and prostitution activities targeted and more.

Now the end of 2000, is upon us. Again, as we have reflected back over the past year, we need to see what has been accomplished and visualize what more can be accomplished in the year 2001. As you ponder this, ponder what you would like to see obtained in and for the Grant Park Community in the year 2001. Then, without hesitation, serve in "YOUR COMMUNITY" without selfishness and self serving motivation, but for your community as a whole.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a heart felt Thank You to those of you who have given of your time and talents to make your community a much better place for all who live there. I encourage you to continue to serve and strive for what is right within the area you call home.

Action

It is true of the Nation, as of the individual, that the greatest doer must also be a great dreamer. Of Crosse, if the dream is not followed by action, then it is a bubble; it has merely served to divert the man from doing something. But great action, action that is really great, can not take place if the man has it not in his brain to think great thoughts, to dream great dreams.
