Grant Park Neighborhood Civic Association

January 2001 News Letter

Jan 17, 2001

As we begin the year 2001, we are reminded of the urgent need to have and maintain a Civic / Neighborhood Watch Association, I am referring to the January 11, 2001, robbery attempt and shooting of "Frank" at the Amoco on N. 50th Street.

The Grant Park Civic / Neighborhood Watch Association has started the year off with some changes. There has been some newly elected officials for the association and they are:

Evelyn Canzenza, President
Ray Brown, Secretary
Roger Beasley, Treasurer

The association has taken on new direction and plans are being made to create a more active and involved association. They are planning on getting placed on the City of Tampa's City Council Agenda so they may address the Council with their concerns and disappointments.

The January meeting was a good one with a few more people attending. One thing that was done the association should be proud of was the associations "Love Offering" to "Frank" for him and his family. It was one way for the community to show "Frank" their appreciation of him and his commitment to the community as well.

There were some "same old" complaints made about street level drug dealers, kids hanging in the streets and trucks using the residential streets. Of course, the majority does agree that Grant Park has been cleaned up a lot and are thankful for what has been done. They would still like to see Grant Park a little cleaner.

The Grant Park Association looks forward to a better year in 2001, and plans to continue their efforts to have Grant Park recognized by the City of Tampa for who and what they are.
