Well, January has come and gone which means one month down and eleven to go. Now you may wonder why I say this, it is simple, time does fly past and in order to prepare we have to be very aware of our time. Not a whole lot was accomplished in January of 2001, for Grant Park however, you have the next eleven months to make a difference.
Remember that the February Community Meeting will be held on February 20, 2001, at the Grant Park Recreation Center. Everyone needs to attend the meeting and to make known any neighborhood problems that the association can address.
The association is in the process of being placed on the agenda for a City Commission meeting in order to go in and fight for the Grant Park Community and to hopefully, gain recognition of the community and to solicit assistance in several areas. Everyone who can attend this meeting needs to do so. Remember, it is "your" community and that it will only be as good as you make it.
Remember also that March is fast approaching and time once again for the City's NEAT Program to come through the area. We have scheduled a pre-clean up date of Saturday, March 17 and the actually NEAT pick up date of Saturday, March 24, 2001. Everyone needs to have their stuff put out curbside by 7:00 AM on March 24, 2001, to ensure a pick up.
If you know of any Grant Park Residents who need assistance in cleaning up their yards or in putting out heavy materials, please contact one of the Grant Park Association Board Members and we will make arrangements to get assistance.
And last but not least, as all of you know "Frank" as we know him from the Amoco was shot in a robbery attempt in early January, 2001. Frank is still in the hospital and while recovering well, has a very long road ahead to him. At this point he is still in need of your prayers and concerns. He is still paralyzed from the waist down at this time, we pray that in time he will regain the use of his legs however, this is one miracle we have to ask from above. Frank has done a lot for the Grant Park Community, for the community as a whole and for individuals of the community. Please make sure you take to time to check on him from time to time and send a card or letter or get word to him you have inquired of his well being.
Until next time,
Gene
