Grant Park Neighborhood Civic Association

National Night Out

Aug 06, 2000

On August 1, 2000, the nation wide stance against crime known as National Night Out was held. Communities all over America came together to promote unity within their communities, to stand up for their rights as citizens and foster a better neighborhood environment in which to live.

Throughout the City of Tampa, neighborhoods came together at central locations to promote the issues. The Grant Park Neighborhood was invited to the celebration that was held at the Woodlawn Park in the 6400 block of N. 32nd Street. The event drew about 100 people from several different communities.

There were a few guest speakers present and they all seemed to have the same message. Unite together within your neighborhoods, stand strong against the criminal elements, communicate, cooperate and form a partnership with the police to facilitate this effort to its fullest potential.

Maybe next year (2001) the Grant Park Community can work on hosting the National Night Out event for East Tampa. This is truly a wonderful event and does promote the unity of the communities.
