For more than a month, I have tried to clarify the problems with recycling. It seems that the Waste Management flyer has incorrect information. Tim McNally, the operations manager at Waste Management, tells me there has been some confusion at WM over the recyclables.
He acknowledges that the WM flyer we published in our October newsletter probably contained more items in the paper category than the drivers were allowed to collect.
On December 28, Tim McNally sent me a revised flyer. I will mention these changes in the January/February newsletter.
In summary, the only area that has changed was the paper recyclables.
The items that WM will collect are:
... all newspapers, including color inserts (including glossy)
... Brown paper bags
... food boxes (cereal, etc.) Remove liners in the boxes
... Junk mail or other papers
... Magazines
Not collected ...
... phone books
... drink boxes, milk and juice cartons
Tim McNally said: ''If your hauler leaves something, it is not currently recyclable. Please dispose of these items as trash. Please be patient in your recycling efforts. This spring, we will be expanding our list of recyclable items to better serve you.''
I hope this revised approach will let the WM driver work more efficiently and will reduce the aggravation to our homeowners.
