INFORMATION FROM LOUISVILLE METRO HEALTH DEPARTMENT:

It is important that you get your flu shot and we want serve you. However, due to an overwhelming response, we have booked all our available appointments through October 20. We will have plenty of opportunities to vaccinate you during the later part of October, November, and December or later. Please call us back at a later date to reschedule.

If you feel you can?’t wait, we encourage you to call your local Kroger or ValuMarket store to see when they will be offering flu shots. You can also contact the Visiting Nurses Association. They offer many local opportunities as well. You can reach them at 502-584-2456.

ON FLU IMMUNIZATIONS

The flu season usually runs from October to March.

WHO SHOULD GET A FLU SHOT?
Beginning October 2, the Louisville Metro Health Department is recommending a flu immunization for high risk populations. These include:


People age 50 and older
Children age 6 months to five years
Household members and caretakers of infants younger than 6 months of age
Pregnant women
People with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and asthma
People with weakened immune systems
Children 2-18 years of age on long-term aspirin therapy
Residents of long-term--care facilities
Health-care personnel who provide direct patient care
To ensure that those who are at highest risk of complications from influenza have access to vaccine this season, we are only giving immunizations to the at risk groups mentioned above during the month of October. We encourage everyone to get a flu shot starting in early November.

If you have questions about whether you should get a flu vaccine, consult your doctor.

Flu immunizations are given by appointment only.

Call one of these Health Department Clinics to schedule your flu shot. Appointments are available Monday through Friday. Times vary.

Beginning October 16, flu Immunizations will also be given at the Health Department?’s administrative headquarters at 400 E. Gray St. by appointment only.
400 East Gray St. - Available Dates and Times:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 8:30 and 11 a.m. and noon to 3:30. Call 574-5643 to schedule an appointment.

HOMEBOUND Appointments
Elderly or disabled citizens who can not travel outside the home can call the Louisville Metro Health Dept. to schedule a nurse visit to the home.

RANDOM AREA CLINICS
If businesses or organizations such as retirement communities, assisted living facilities, clubs or other groups want to schedule a flu clinic at their site, please contact the Louisville Metro Health Department at 574-5303

COST
The cost for a flu shot is $25. The nasal flu mist costs $35.
If you are enrolled in Medicare Part B or Passport insurance plans, those plans will cover the cost for flu immunizations. The Louisville Metro Health Department will not turn anyone away because of inability to pay.
