Stop Sign On St. Andrews Drive

Al, I don't know what brought up the
concept of Squirrels. Someone must have just pulled that out of their hat
to lower the importance of this issue.
I have stated it before, and, I will
state it again. THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE AGAINST THIS STOP SIGN
ON ST. ANDREWS DRIVE DON'T LIVE ON ST.
ANDREWS DRIVE AND HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT
GOES ON THIS STREET DAY AND NIGHT!
The MAJORITY of all those who live on
ST. ANDREWS DRIVE WANT TO SEE A STOP
SIGN INSTALLED. They should be the only ones that have a say so in regards to this matter, since they are
the ones affected by this issue, NOT SOMEONE WHO LIVES ON INVERNESS!!!!!
What is it with you people? What is
more important than the Safety of our
Children, our homes and our personel
property? Most of those signatures that I saw on that so-called petition,
do not have Children or Grand Children here at St. Andrews who have no other
real place to ride their bikes, scooters and play, other than our local
streets. There are others, even Elderly
People who ride their bikes on St. Andrews Drive who are very aware of this problem.
I have yet to hear ONE SINGLE REASON, that makes any kind of sense, why we
should not put up a stop sign. EVEN
IF IT JUST SAVES ONE CHILD'S LIFE, OR
EVEN THE LIFE OF A BELOVED PET, IT IS
WELL WORTH IT.
I challenge anyone to give me just one, just one good reason, that overrides the safety of children, that
makes sense, and I will say, there is
not one good reason Al in your statement about the Stop Sign.

Experts say no

Speedy, the point is that transportation experts I read say a stop sign is not going to be effective to slow traffic. Do you have any expert opinion that a stop sign can be effectively used to slow traffic?

Stop sign not perfect, .. better

Unless you think drivers will regularly blow thru the stop sign at 25, 30 or 35 mph,
then the stop sign will slow at least some of them down some of the time, which is better then none of them, all of the time.

Weighing Risks, Costs, Benefits

The expert studies found by Mr. Guice indicate that drivers who do slow down or stop will decrease the risk only during the time they are slowing for the sign. After that, there is an increased risk during acceleration and cruising to make up for time lost because of the sign.

Here's another idea to float. Mr. Guice's research found that experts say narrowing a road will cause drivers to slow. Maybe a couple of bicycle lanes on St. Andrews and Tantallon will have the desired affect,improve the value of our neighborhood, and be low cost.
