The Oldest Neighborhood Association in Denver

The Historic Montclair Community Association, Inc. is the oldest neighborhood association in Denver having been formed in 1907.

We're a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to innovative educational, civic and social activities. Our boundaries are Quebec, Holly, Colfax and 6th Ave. We overlap to the west with Mayfair Neighbors.

Through our newsletter (at least four issues annually), flyers and public announcements, we keep members informed about important neighborhood activities, zoning issues, meetings, elections and projects.

Officers and at-large board members serve without pay. HMCAI frequently joins forces with schools, churches and other neighborhood groups for the common good.

Lots of Activities

Over the years we've pioneered or promoted house tours, neighborhood watch, meet-the-candidates nights, tree plantings, picnics, Halloween parties, breakfasts with Santa, Easter egg hunts and recycling.

We helped build a solar greenhouse at Montclair School and assisted in leveling the land that is now Kittredge Park to make it suitable for football and soccer games.

We opposed the conversion of Richthofen Castle into a B&B, presented numerous programs on crime prevention, worked to save the old Montclair School Annex building (now Stanley British Primary) from demolition, helped close down the notorious Huddle Inn, campaigned to keep a proposed porno movie theatre from opening in our area, donated a bench to Montclair Park, and convinced the Denver Water Board that the fenced land above its reservoir at Quebec and East 11th Ave. would be ideal for football/soccer.

And that's not all. We campaigned for a new library, negotiated to get the Post Office relocated to the site at East 11th Ave. and Verbena, fought against the widening of Quebec and the re-striping of 8th Ave., sought to allay fears about the group home on 8th Ave., and were instrumental in getting funds for the renovation of the historic Molkery in Montclair Park.

We continue to keep our members informed about the redevelopment of Lowry. There have been other projects, campaigns and activities too numerous to mention all because our members have devoted their time and talents to them.
