If you weren?’t there, you missed the best picnic in Denver. Hundreds came to enjoy the delicious food, fabulous music by the Dixieland Express, the parade of beautifully decorated bikes and trikes, games for the kids, the sand box treasure hunt, and a gentle hosing by our firefighting friends who departed temporarily to douse a blaze in a motor home.
Kathy Lamos planned and coordinated EVERYTHING and gets a halo and at least ten gold stars, especially for buying all the food and beverages. It took her four evenings after work to do the shopping. That?’s volunteering above and beyond. Although she did have the able assistance of helpers in other areas. Jonathan Lurie obtained the park permit; Steve Anderson, Gail Barry, Matt Bortz, Scott Hamling, Glenn Smith and Tad Walden provided grills, coolers, ice and other necessities. Glenn Smith also labored mightily collecting and returning the grills in his pickup, cooking almost non-stop, and salting the sand box with coins for the children to find.
Other cooks included Steve Anderson, Phoenix Blake, Scott Hamling and Joe Lamos. Steve Anderson coordinated the kids?’ games and the bike parade. Carrie O?’Shea bought the prizes for the bike parade and the games. Linda Law of the Law/Heitzman Team donated a sheet cake designed with the Re/Max logo, as she has done for years and years. Steve Usick donated and inflated all those fabulous red, white and blue balloons, as he has done for years and years.
Matt Bortz, Litizia Ritter, Glenn Smith, Phoenix Blake, Agnus Paz (and others who moved so fast we didn?’t get their names) helped set up and clean up, and Montclair United Methodist Church loaned us tables.
Membership sales were in the capable hands of Lura Williams, Dan Oredson and Pat Smith. They signed up 31 new and 50 renewing members. Another 40 members used the coupon from the June/July newsletter to send in their dues and 41 new and previous members circled an area of interest on the membership form. Our committee chairs will be in touch with you circle-ers at some time in the future.
We appreciate your attendance at our picnic and all your help in making it possible. If we left out your name, mea culpa. We?’re much obliged to all who joined up or renewed
memberships, and for your donations. Thank you. They help defray the cost of the picnic, which is approximately $1,200, for food, beverages, prizes and music. We are also grateful to all picnickers who signed up to deliver the Oct/Nov newsletter.
