I hope that anyone who reads this message will read the proposed property maintenance code and share what the code says with their friends and neighbors. This code, in its current form, applies to all existing residential homes, not just rental homes. No grandfather clause exists. The code mandates window sizes based on room sizes, the size of window openings based on the size of windows, room sizes based on the number of people living in a home, walking through a bedroom to get to a bathroom-not allowed, walking through a bedroom to get to a bedroom-not allowed, and many, many more. The code official is permitted to make new rules as well. I currently own two properties in your neighborhood and several others in the city which do not meet this code's interior requirements. If this code passes in its current form, we will all have to comply with the interior restrictions. Please be aware of what your city council is considering doing. I am very concerned, many realtors, and other citizens are as well. The rules for the interior of homes do not have to do with maintenance. Following the passage of this ordinance, the local government officials will be permitted to enter your homes to check compliance of this ordinance.

Thank you
