As most of you know we run an interpersonal violence prevention program with teenagers from Pawtucket, RI. We have worked with these teenagers for about 5 years now and they are amazing and fun and so very good at what they do, helping other kids recognize and prevent abuse and violence. Well, one of our kids is struggling with a crisis and I am asking for your help on his behalf. Izzy, who is tall, dark, handsome, and adorable, has been with us, at Love Peace, for about 3 years. He has been nominated for awards for his work in preventing interpersonal violence, he is always ready, willing, and able to help......sometimes we do have to promise a ride to go see Amanda, (another member of Love Peace who is also smart, comical, stunning) or go to church, or just a ride home from school, small benefits for a really smart, witty, kind, young man.
Izzy's mom, Wilma Marshall, has been diagnosed with skin cancer. They do have health insurance, but as most of us know, the insurance will not cover the cost of all the treatment. This is a hard working family but they essentially live pay check to pay check. She is undergoing therapy, has already had surgery to remove all that they could remove from her face and neck. Now, and the additional treatment costs are adding up, the hospital and medical bills are starting to climb.
Izzy and his friends, advisors, and other kids from Love Peace, have organized a fundraiser dinner for Ms. Marshall to help defray the medical costs. The dinner is being held at the Met School in Providence on 10/8/09. The cost is $10. Here are the specifics:
