Tax District Increase

Larry,

Thank you for responding to my questions. I agree that the neighborhood will greatly benefit from an increase. Also the increase is small enough that I hope all Bay Crest residents support it.

Update on Tax Increase Proposal

The proposal that will appear on the September 2000 ballot will call for an increase from the current $15 per year to $25 per year. There is no provision to raise it above $25 without another referendum. Pat Gillis, chairperson of the Tax District can confirm this.

Tax Increase Voted In

467 Bay Crest Park residents voted on the tax increase referendum in the Primary Election September 5th. 381 resident voted YES (82%)and 86 resident voted NO (18%). The majority of the voters supported a modest tax increas of $10.00 to $25.00. This increase will allow the tax district, inter alia, to better maintain the common areas. This is similar to the City and County ''Adopt A Highway'' Programs. We have all seen how the City and County maintain the the Memorial Highway and Eisenhower medians. The Civic Association Board strongly supported the increase and appreciate the efforts of our Special Tax District President, Pat Gillis, in being a strong spokesperson for the needed tax increase. If you noted the election results, there were three other Special Tax Districts voting on increases, one to raise their tax to $150 and two to raise their taxes to $200. So, $25.00 a year invested in part in improving the apperance of our neighborhood is a great bargin.
