Historic Kenwood

The good things...

Posted in: Historic Kenwood
It's funny, for all the hoopla that goes on here about negative postings, I see few postings about anything positive. Why don't we talk about some of the success stories in the neighborhood? Why don't we talk about how neighbors come together to better situations? Why don't we talk about friendships that have been formed? Did we forget about all the good stuff? Too many people are hung up on what they determine are complaints/negative postings, (I include myself in this category) instead of leading by example. Come on folks, get off your butts and talk about the good things!!!!!
I live on a block that as I'm sure many other blocks experience, thoroughly has its' share of problems. Along with the bad is a whole bunch of good! I also have some WONDERFUL neighbors. I have neighbors that I would do anything for and I know they would do the same for me. They are my true friends!
A group of us got together and completely cleaned up one of the yards in here. The one yard was a total mess, no one seemed to care about it so we raked, mowed, trimmed (even trimmed the trees, one of our neighbors is a tree cutter and he volunteered his time and machinery). We did this because we care about our neighborhood! When we were finished, it honestly didn't look like the same house.
I have some other great friends in Kenwood too, they invite us over for BBQ's and to swim every single weekend. There is not a weekend that goes by that we don't get together and have a huge amount of fun.
The first folks we met in here have been our friends ever since. We swap tools, heck, we even swap sheds :) They are a great couple and I value our friendship.
These are only a few of the many positive experiences I have had in Kenwood. I'm sure we can all think of lots of things, so let's hear 'em!

when your right...........

We do seem to talk about only the bad things. How about making 100 new friends, some close, some good acquaitnaces(SPL??),all people I would never have known without the association.Fun Projects in the park and around the neighborhood. Having people from other neighborhoods jealous of our successes and influence with the city. Meeting people who seem to genuinely care about their neighborhood ,city, state and country. Getting to know everyone on my block and feeling safe with three of them having a key to my house and the code to my alarm system. I feel very proud and lucky to have found the type of neighborhood where your able to actually know ,care about and yes even love the people around you.
Just my thoughts. What do you think.
Montra

Anyone who knows me has probably heard my montra for life(after ''Everything in moderation, including moderation''): ''I'm never moving again!''
Yes, that has to do with the fact that moving is hell. On top of that, is my my love of this neighborhood and all the friends and neighbors I've come to know. I truly hope to never move again.

I, too, ditto what Paul and Bill have said. I haven't lived in a place where everyone feels so welcome in many years. I think it all started after we purchased our home and there were certain things that had to be done in order to close. The owner lived out of state. Debbie, our realtor, came over with her husband and helped pull weeds, clean out the garage, etc. We have been great friends ever since. It is really great to know you can count on your neighbors when in need and be able to return the favors. After living here for almost 6 1/2 years, I think we would be hard pressed to find another neighborhood quite like this one!

Everyone's hard work in correcting problems and issues are so apparent and our successes are many. We are proud of where we have come from and where Historic Kenwood can go in the future!
