KB, this isn't the way...

...to handle it.

I'm bummed, because I just had THE most brilliant, passionate, wonderful, FABU response typed, and then a co-worker came over here and, long story short, Edna like an idiot kicked her computer accidentally and turned it completely OFF. Post: GONE! No way can I ever reconstruct the sheer Pulitzer prize winning power and awesomeness of that post. Oh, the horror, the horror. I won't even attempt my former eloquence. I'll just say the Reader's Digest version:

KB, posting a neighbor's actual street address and attacking them as having a ''dump'' is the cyber equivalent of giving them a public stoning in the town square. I'm ashamed for Kenwood when posts like this appear, and sadly and to my surprise each time, appear they do, and often. If you are having a prob with a particular property near you, you should:

1. Attempt to speak directly with the property owner, if you think it is possible. Sometimes it isn't a good idea (like if you are living next to the Unibomber or something--seriously, some people are better left unapproached, in which case...)

2. Contact the code enforcement dept. That is exactly what they are there for. IF there are really codes violations there. If it is just that the property is somewhat run down but no real codes violations, then I'm afraid you are just going to have to either let it go and think about how much better it makes your house look in comparison *l*, OR offer to help them. Seriously. If paint is the problem, say NICELY ''I was noticing how cool your house is and thinking that (insert color you like HERE) would look so good on it. I would love to help you paint if you like!'' If someone had made me that offer, it wouldn't have taken me 6 years to paint my house. Some folks just don't have either the skill or the funds to paint their exterior, but you'd be surprised maybe by how much some of those same people, whom it may not *appear* care about their home's appearance, would LOVE to get their home painted and maybe just need a little help. Isn't it better for Kenwood to be a neighborhood of helping hands rather than a neighborhood of people who post actual addresses on the internet and publically humiliate the owner? I'm not blind to the fact that some owners really don't care and maybe don't deserve my concern over their feelings. But I believe that most homeowners really DO care deeply about how their home looks and about the neighborhood and the last thing that is helpful is to post a post like yours. Even if they DON'T care, the thing to do is to call codes, not do this.

How would you feel if someone posted your ADDRESS and then said derogatory things about your home? I think it is awful and it makes me ashamed of the fact that there are those in Kenwood who would do something like this.
