  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor

New to the forum with a question.  Are there any rules to where people can park in the neighborhoods?  We are around a few houses who own several cars (up to 5 in one house) and I’m afraid our home along with others in the area have lost their curb appeal.

We keep our cars kept in the garage and try to upkeep our lawn, but it's pointless when cars are parked in front of our house all the time.  I feel it's making the area less attractive with cars blocking other people’s homes in addition to oil marks and stains all along the streets.

Am I being too picky?  Is there anything that can be done?

I agree -- I am OK with the occasional street parking for "event reasons" (the occasional holiday party or larger gathering), but we have folks on our street that use the street as an extension of their drive.  I have asked neighbors to move them from in front of our house but all they did was park in front of someone else's house.  It is especially nerve wracking because we have to carefully back out so we don't hit this car every day.  Not sure what our bylaws state but we should toughen up on this one.

Street parking is prohibited in my neighborhood (no curbs).  It does happen on occasion but most homeowners abide by the HOA.  My HOA tried to enact a maximum car in driveway rule that was wrought with legal issues and never was enacted...this is a tough one, especially when everyone in the home is a driver.
