The Association was founded in 1978 but fell into inactivity, then was revived in 1991 to organize the community against blight, crime, and housing deterioration.
The Association has identified vacant lots,and run down housing as its most important issues. For 12 years we have been assisting residents in need of home repairs apply for NOF Grants.Members clean and mow many vacant city owned lots throughout the year, and with the help of The Greening of Detroit turned 4 of them into the Hope Mini-Park. The Association has assisted residents close alleys, reducing trash dumping.
Its activities include an Easter Egg Hunt for the children, a Christmas Party including a visit from Santa and gifts for the children, the Annual Giant Neighborhood Sale, Home Beautification Award Contest, Angels Night, Family to Family Food Baskets (at Christmas), and the Motor City Make-over.
We are a menber of the Brightmoor Alliance and the 8th Precinct Community Relations Group. We are represented and work with Weed and Seed Program, we have completed Phase Two of the Beautification of Fenkell.
The Hope Park Association Newsletter is delivered monthly to almost 1000 homes and businesses. Members pay voluntary dues of $15.00 per year, and additional funds come from grants, donations, and the annual Giant Sale. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at the Crowell Recreation Center, 16630 Lahser, at 7:00pm.
