As many of you know, we were locked out of Meyer School for our last scheduled meeting. We contacted the principal (Mr. Oechsner) and told him what happened; he was very apologetic, and told us that the next time we had a meeting he would give us his home phone number so he could come down personally and unlock it. Apparently, since school was out of session at that time, he had made arrangements with the central public school staff to provide a custodian, and somehow that request fell through the cracks.
During the meeting, several people expressed concern about the traffic situation in the neighborhood. We discussed the speed humps that have since been put in along Alameda, and the general problem with people speeding on streets where young children may be playing. A volunteer committee was put together to talk about the situation in more detail and make contact with the City of Tempe; they'll do some research and make some recommendations for what we can do. The committee, which is being chaired by Dennis Ricardo (829-6579), will be meeting during September; please call him if you'd like more information or would like to participate in this work.
Our next and last meeting of the year will be to review the neighborhood association's goals and activities, and to elect new officers for next year. To avoid conflicting with the holidays, we're scheduling it for Thursday, November 19, at 7:30 pm at Meyer School. Please come!
