One of the recommendations we heard was picking a weekend as a recommended yard sale time. This would only be a suggested time, of course, since residents would still be free to pick any weekend that worked for them. However, as anyone who has gone "garage sale-ing" knows, one of the big hassles is the driving distance involved in going all over to find them. If there were a large number of garage sales all clustered together, many buyers would be attracted to that area to be able to see more "merchandise per minute" and to cut down on their travel time. We asked for recommendations for which weekend to choose at the service project, but got very poor response. So, in order to pick something, we're suggesting the weekend of October 16-17. If you're planning a yard sale this fall and all weekends are the same for you, you may want to consider that weekend. If you'd like to advertise any specific items in the paper, contact Geoff Shell, who will coordinate the input and place ads in both the Tribune and the Republic; please plan on donating $1.00 to help cover the cost of the ad. We'll publish a "map" listing the locations and items to be distributed throughout the neighborhood that day, so someone coming to look for the red flowered couch, say, can find out exactly where it is by stopping at any active sale. :-)
