We had our first neighborhood service project on Saturday, June 13. It was very successful, and very well supported. About twelve people, including Gary Davis, our Tempe Neighborhood Association Program representative, went door-to-door on the long block of Concorda between Rural and Terrace. The city provided a large "roll-out" dumpster, and participants brought along their own rakes, clippers, and other garden tools. We were able to help a number of residents do some pick-up and clean-up, including one woman who had what seemed like a small lumber yard that we were able to dispose of! Safeway donated three dozen donuts for the participants, and we picked up a large container of ice water from McDonalds. Our sincere thanks to Rene Paschal, our vice-chair, for organizing the project, and to all the participants and residents on Concorda who gave us the opportunity to work together to improve our neighborhood!
We would like to schedule one more service project before the end of the year. One strong candidate is the alley running between the houses on the Palmcroft-Terrace-Redondo-Bonarden block. We can get a roll-out again from Tempe, and if we all pitch in, could make a big improvement in that alley's looks. If you have any other recommendations for a "target" area, please let one of the officers know soon. The project is scheduled for Saturday morning, November 7. Please consider helping us with this project, especially if your house borders on that alley.
